Monthly Musings
Ok everyone, take a deep breath and think about where you were and who you were 10 to 20 years ago. How much life had you gone through? What kinds of problems were you solving? What made you happy? Who was important to you? What kind of future were you hopeful for?
Most days, I find myself in a state of utter frenzy wondering what the heck I’m doing with my life, but on February 8th—my 35th birthday— I was compelled let myself off the hook. I stopped to think about sweet young Sie and determined that current Sie’s life is pretty damn good.
I started the day with a full family snuggle — Jon, our 5 month old Remy, and our cat all piled in bed. From there, I got to enjoy a perfect 25 minute run (to me, a “perfect run” is any amount of time where my pace is up and I’m inclined to sing or rap along to my playlist). Jon then made me migas style breakfast tacos— a nostalgic meal from our days in Austin. I had a breezy but productive work day and even snuck in a window to chat with Emmy about Good Soup! My evening closed out with Neopolitan pizza and pasta at Mission Pizza and a new episode of Traitors on Peacock.
Here’s what I loved about this birthday: It was a simple reminder of what it looks like to define success on your own terms. On the one hand, it was a run of the mill, suburban birthday. But on the other hand, younger me would say being a well-traveled, healthy, well-loved, ambitious, and well-fed woman ain’t nothin to sneeze at! As someone who had no love life until age 25 and held 2 to 3 jobs until age 31, I can say with certainty that none of this manifested itself overnight. However, over the years I dreamed a dream, put one foot in front of the other, had a bit of luck (as we all do), and am extremely grateful for where I am today.
So whats next on the horizon?
Well, as you can imagine Emmy and I have been doing a lot of dreaming about Good Soup but here’s what putting one foot in front of the other currently looks like.
For the next few months we’ll be dropping one FREE batch of soup every month in WSNC 🍲. (Why free? Because these are test batches!). Date and details will be shared via email/ newsletter.
We’re also scouting the perfect location to call a tiny brick and mortar (or gravel lot?) home 📍. If you have any suggestions for a cool spot please drop us a line!
Hope your mini retrospective brought you grace and inspiration today.
Xx

Share the Good
When Remy was born sooo many wonderful people dropped off food to take one responsibility off our plate. Earlier this month we were able to return this favor by cooking dinner for one of our neighbors when their little girl was born.
Let’s Do it
If your love language is food (and I imagine it probably is) find an opportunity to feed someone in your life. Maybe it’s making a full meal, dropping off a sweet treat, or just picking up the tab of an Uber eats order. As always, you’ll know what’s right when the moment strikes :)
Hot Stuff
I recently had the pleasure of partaking in a brownie bake-off amongst friends. The mission was to determine the best basic brownie recipe in all the land, and boy was it enlightening! Here were the findings…
